Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Family or Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (NP) to provide on-site primary care services to the female population at our correctional facility. The ideal candidate will have at least one year of working NP experience in a primary care setting or hospital medicine and be licensed to work in Ohio.
Responsibilities:
Monitor progress and intervene in the course of chronic illnesses, using ODRC policies and protocols for guidance.
Inoculate or vaccinate against communicable diseases, prescribe medications, administer treatment for acute and chronic illnesses, and perform minor surgery as training and competency allow.
Perform routine physical exams to determine control or status of chronic conditions and diagnose new conditions.
Evaluate patients for the necessity of specialty referral consultations inside or outside the institution, review consult reports, and approve or disapprove recommendations accordingly.
Order and review results of laboratory, x-ray, and other diagnostic testing as appropriate.
Facilitate the completion of medical reclassification and requests for non-formulary medications with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) as necessary.
Perform routine and emergency medical care of patients as scheduled.
Examine, diagnose, and treat patients within the scope of practice as identified by the State of Ohio Nursing Board.
Conduct rounds on infirmary patients as deemed appropriate by the CMO.
Document all assessments, diagnostic impressions, treatment plans, and follow-up parameters according to ODRC Office of Correctional Healthcare guidelines, policies, protocols, and related American Correctional Association standards.
Cooperate with CMO medical quality oversight and accept suggestions, redirection, and guidance.
Requirements:
Licensed to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in Ohio.
At least one year of working NP experience in a primary care setting or hospital medicine.
Healthcare-professional level BLS/CPR certification.
Board certification.
Drug Enforcement Administration certification (if available, required for the assignment).
