Substance Use and Concurrent Disorders This program provides inpatient and outpatient services for individuals dealing with both substance use and mental health conditions (concurrent disorders). Services are tailored to each clients goals and include self-referrals, making care more accessible. This position primarily supports our outpatient programs, including a partnership with community bed-based addiction treatment centers, as well as the RAAM clinic. Duties :
- Support triage, assessment, and follow-up care for individuals seeking treatment for their substance use.
- Collaborate with program psychiatrist/psychologists to ensure clients with possible concurrent disorders receive psychological assessments
- Implement short-term treatment plans for clients with diagnosed concurrent disorders.
- Travel to Ottawa region bed-based addiction treatment facilities to provide the above services.
- Integrate clinical findings and evidence-based practice to formulate diagnoses and develop initial care plans.
- Collaborates with patients and members of the interdisciplinary team to identify and implement pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions that promote optimal outcomes.
- Participate in the dissemination and utilization of best practice guidelines.
- Provide education, mentorship and support to the health care team, primary care providers, hospital partners, and community groups.
- Advocate for supportive and safe client care as well as collaborative practice and utilization of evidence-informed practices, in conjunction with other primary care providers at The Royal including the NPs across the hospital.
- Masters Degree in Nursing or BSCN with specialty certification as Nurse Practitioner is required .
- Minimum 5 years of experience is required.
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse in the Province of Ontario in the Extended Class is required (CNO).
- Specialty certification as a Nurse Practitioner Primary Health Care (NP-PHC) or Nurse Practitioner Adult.
- Able to demonstrate achievement of the nurse practitioner competencies of professional role, responsibility and accountability, health assessment and diagnosis, therapeutic management and health promotion and prevention of illness and injury.
- Able to demonstrate knowledge of relevant legislation and incorporation of this legislation into practice (Mental health Act, Health Care Consent Act, Substitute Decision Act, PHIPA and CSA).
- Recognized leadership skills with the ability to build the inter-disciplinary team approach to care delivery.
- Able to work effectively both independently and as a member of a professional inter-disciplinary treatment team.
- Excellent written and communication skills.
- CPR.
- Valid Ontarios drivers license (travel is required).
- English level A- is mandatory in oral comprehension, expression, reading, and writing. Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset.
