The Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) provides comprehensive health assessments, diagnosis, treatment planning, and management of patient care in collaboration with designated colorectal surgeons within Oncology Surgical Specialties. The APP delivers care across the continuum in both ambulatory clinic and inpatient hospital settings, including participation in daily rounds and perioperative care.
This role is responsible for managing acute and chronic colorectal conditions, supporting surgical oncology patients, and promoting wellness, prevention of complications, and optimal post-operative recovery. The APP functions both autonomously and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team to coordinate high-quality, patient-centered care.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform histories, physical exams, and develop treatment plans for colorectal surgery patients
- Provide pre-operative evaluations and post-operative management in clinic and hospital settings
- Round on hospitalized patients and coordinate inpatient care and discharge planning
- Assist surgeons in the operating room and perform delegated procedures within scope of practice
- Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests and labs
- Prescribe medications and therapies in accordance with state regulations and collaborative agreements
- Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatment plans, and post-surgical care
- Collaborate with surgeons, oncology teams, and interdisciplinary staff to ensure continuity of care
The APP practices within applicable state scope of practice laws (IN, KY, IL) and maintains required collaborative or supervisory agreements. This role serves as a clinical provider, consultant, and patient advocate to support optimal outcomes for the colorectal surgical oncology population
