As a Physician Assistant at the Office of the Medical Examiner, you'll have the opportunity to use your medical, investigative, and administrative skills to support one of the largest Medical Examiner jurisdictions in the Nation!
The Maricopa County Office of the Medical Examiner (OME) is seeking a knowledgeable and motivated Physician Assistant to join our team! You'll provide narrative reports and certification of deaths for cases under the jurisdiction of the office that are not admitted for physical examination. Youll work alongside Medical Examiners that are charged by state statute with directing death investigations involving cases in the public interest, including those affecting the criminal justice and public health systems.

We Require
Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant educational program
Valid, unrestricted license to practice as a Physician Assistant as issued by the State of Arizona
We Also Value
Prior experience working as a Physician Assistant
Experience in a forensic environment
Job Contributions
Performs reviews of medical records to determine the cause and manner of death for jurisdictional cases that are not admitted for physical examination
Documents findings in written reports supported by the medicolegal death investigation
Reviews items such as hospital charts, medicolegal death investigator reports, and law enforcement agency reports
Certifies deaths in the state vital records system (DAVE)
Participates in conferences with family members, law enforcement, attorneys, and other individuals to provide information on investigations
In rare instances, responds to subpoenas for testimony
Refers to outside specialists, outside diagnostic studies, and other external services as medically indicated
Participates in peer review, in-service training, quality improvement processes, and other meetings necessary to improve medicolegal death investigations
Maintains applicable licensure and skills according to the requirements of State law, Department policies, and licensure agencies
Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief Medical Examiner, Deputy Chief Medical Examiner, Medical Examiners, or designees
Working Conditions
The position requires sufficient strength and physical and emotional stability to work under adverse conditions
